Municipal Planting - French style

We have recently returned from 2 weeks in France - the principle purpose for the trip being C.J & L's wedding in a chateau in the Dordogne over Easter - a wonderful weekend, 4 days of celebration

We drove down and back - a road trip through parts of France and it's cities that we had not visited before.
Our last night in France was spent in Chartres as I was keen to see the cathedral.  It was a lovely city that would repay a longer visit to linger and see more.

All around the city was spectacular spring planting.  These beds below were in a grassy area alongside the road on our walk to the cathedral......

White honesty, white forget-me-nots and tulips

Behind the cathedral more beds, some edged in box.  Planted again in whites and pale colours.

Stunning tulip - I'm not usually a fan of yellow tulips as after all the narcissi earlier in the spring I'm looking for bright colours, but these just went so well within this planting scheme.

Around the main shopping area of the town were these very striking stone or concrete bowls.

Most had a large shrub planted in the centre surrounded by other spring planting.

Different areas around town had different colour schemes.

Just lovely!!!
