Thursday Doors - Barrington Court

What is it about doors and windows that photographers find fascinating?  Or at least I do and  I know I'm not alone.

I've just found a link to a blog with a regular weekly posting of door photos (via another blog of course) - so I'm going to join in. Maybe not every week - but who knows.  A chance to look back at all those past photos..........and an excuse to take some more.....



Barrington Court is a National Trust house - the nearest one to where we live in Somerset.

A Tudor manor house, begun around 1538 and completed in the 1550's. It has  a seventeenth century stable block, later converted to accommodation and a twentieth century Arts and Crafts garden. 

It was one of the first houses to be acquired by the National Trust in 1907.  It was leased to the Lyle family (of Tate and Lyle sugar fame) in the 1920's who then restored it as it was in a derelict state. Once restored, Colonel Lyle filled the house with his collection of panelling, fireplaces and staircases.

This was originally the stable block built in the 17th Century.  It now houses the restaurant and other rooms and is linked to the main building.

In 2014 Barrington Court featured as one of the locations in the BBC drama "Wolf Hall"
