Herb bed - Stage 2

Last year we began the construction of two herb beds either side of the steps that go up to the lawn from the house.

This was Stage 1 - to the right of the steps.  It gets most sun and is planted with rosemary and thymes

So the plan this year was to complete the the area to the left of the steps.

 The area always looked a mess - the slope is too steep to mow, so the grass had an occasional cut with shears

Step 1 was to build a small retaining wall.

Then dig out the grass, create a terrace and build a second retaining wall

Cover with weed-suppressing membrane and buy herbs

Plant, mulch with gravel and wait for them to grow!!

The black hole is for a particular mint I haven't found yet.

First one filling out nicely - it's good to have herbs near the house now.  No more trekking across the lawn, often in the dark, to pick rosemary.
