The garden in September

I'm not quite into the rhythm of blogging yet. Hence here we are nearly at the end of October and I'm just starting the summary of the garden in September.- - but I shall go ahead anyway as one of the reasons for the blog is so that I have a record of what is looking good and when.

September was a real Indian summer month here - glorious weather, sunny days but some chilly nights.

The hot border by the side lawn is still going strong.

 The Heleniums gave been flowering for months.

Asters and Japanese anemones

Sedums and grasses.

This is the tall Rudbeckia laciniata "Herbstonne"- very stately and about 7ft tall.

The new bed in front of the potting shed is still going strong - over-planted!!

New rose - Gertrude Jekyll - bought from the David Austin stand at Hampton Court flower show and settling in well in the new bed.  Hopefully she will climb up one of the pillars of the pergola.

Our one apple on the new fruit trees - A Bramley Seedling - we should probably have removed it at an earlier stage but couldn't resist letting it grow.  It was baked in a tiny pie for two with some blackberries from the field hedge.  It was good!

 The top bed by gravel path with new sundial.  The back of this bed needs a major re-work - sometime. It's over-run with Saponaria, which may have a delicate-looking flower but is a thug.

The tints of autumn are showing on the Acer - Orange Dream - and the Pyracantha is covered in berries.

Dahlias in the cutting / veg patch.

September was a good month.
