Kingston. 1st July

We drove up to Surrey the day before the Hampton Court Flower Show and stayed over at Sunbury in order to make an early start at the show. (see previous post).
It was the hottest day of the year and we went for dinner in Kingston - to visit old haunts and see what changes had occurred. The area below and beyond the bridge is very different now.  Lots of restaurants and pubs and a lot of people promenading on a warm summers evening.

We ate outside at one of the restaurants overlooking the river.
After dinner we walked along the river and up into the Market Place.  All change here - the whole area has been paved in granite blocks of varying shades of grey - very smart!

The photo's were taken late evening so are a little dark ( not sure I had the camera on "night" setting - that might have been useful!

Apart from the new surface and the fact it was night and therefore virtually deserted, it all looked very familiar.

 The market stalls are now more permanent wooden buildings

The Market House looked clean and refurbished - not sure about the giant tennis ball - but it was Wimbledon week!












We finished up, having walked through the town, back at Gibbon Road.  A look at the old house which, like the Market Place, has had a makeover.
